Broken Dishes is the oldest quilt block pattern in Women’s Work, first recorded as being draped across slave graves in early America.

I find this pattern striking in its combination of elegant geometric design and its bittersweet title. It is as though the pattern serves as a visual reminder that even within hardship there are moments of beauty.
